That's a relief.

"Willtell
If that were the case why are HMRC specifically saying it's an investigation into PAYE/NIC fraud? What we do or don't pay in transfer fees to another club, has nothing to do with those taxes."

You are benefiting from a later report but just because French authorities say that is what HMR&C are doing doesn't mean they will find any.

According to the last report I read from C&H there were no arrests and no computers etc removed. Just 2 or 3 print outs of deals done. - http://www.claretandhugh.info/

"West Ham’s top brass are tonight relaxed after a day of high drama which saw HMRC officers stage swoops on the London Stadium and Rush Green Training Centre.

The 30 or so officers arrived at 8 am but after nearly 12 hours there have been no arrests and not a single laptop, PC or portable phone has been taken away for further investigation!

The numbers of investigating officers dwindled during the day and the Rush Green complex was “free of them ” towards lunchtime whilst about ten remained at the stadium offices.

Print-outs of two or three deals were taken away as life slowly returned to normal with one insider revealing that the atmosphere is “relaxed” and we have cooperated and assisted every step of the way.

Officers visited various offices at the stadium and the club’s finance team were thought to have been prominent in helping.

One source told us: “To be honest it felt like a huge fishing exercise, we don’t know what it’s all about to be honest but are assisting wherever and whenever asked.”

West Ham endured a dramatic day yesterday, as their premises were raided as part of a HMRC investigation.

The Hammers, along with Newcastle United, were raided by HMRC officers and plenty of speculation soon followed as to the reason of the action taken.

Now, The Sun reports that Demba Ba’s transfer from West Ham to Newcastle in 2011 triggered the raid amidst a £5m probe into fraud in football.

Ba signed for Newcastle six-years ago and impressed over two-seasons with the club, before returning to London and joining Chelsea- where he struggled to earn consistent opportunities.

“Image rights had been widely used to avoid paying national insurance and income tax on player salaries. The money was paid into offshore accounts.”

“Newcastle and West Ham were repeatedly asked to cooperate but officers felt they were far from helpful. There is a large focus on the movements of players between France and England from 2011 onwards. French authorities are assisting.”

Both clubs have completed numerous transfers in recent history with French side Marseille, another speculated reason behind the raid, but West Ham stating yesterday they were co-operating fully with the investigation.

A better punishment with any payments to a player outside the contract should make that player illegible to play in a match. Any match played with an illegible player should be voided and deemed a 0-3 result to the opposition.

Yes mate it would. G&S+B have been running businesses for years and if they were crooked it would have been discovered long before now. When you have £billions you don't fiddle tax & NI on payments to staff. It is too easily discovered.

Payments to tax havens are a different matter entirely but I'm not sure our owners would do that!

Pretty sure the Payet 'loyalty' payment was in his contract as automatic payment if he was still there on 1st September so it would have been in his wages like everything else

Tucked away in the detail of the bbc piece, it says two things.

The HMRC are working at the request of the french tax authority.

The request by the French was made in July last year.

Read this morning it's about Ba when he left us for Newcastle

As it was a free transfer that would likely explain why Newcastle had people arrested and we didn';t
